Agroforesty

At Kindred Forest, we deeply value the natural abundance that rainforests provide. There is enough scientific evidence to suggest that agroforestry is more productive and sustainable over time than monoculture farming, offering greater crop diversity and economic value to farmers.

Our mission is to create, sustain, and promote rainforest value through sourcing our products exclusively from regenerative agroforestry systems.

Below are the harvesting and cultivation systems we work with, starting with the most natural:

Natural forest

Long before agriculture, forests served as nature’s ultimate farms, providing forest communities with a rich bounty of nuts, fruits, plant fibres, and more. Besides, forests play a critical role in storing carbon, regulating climate, and purifying air and water. Preserving forests offers a far greater value than converting them into monocultures.

Currently, we source wild-harvested products like wild Bolivian cacao and arenga forest sugar.

Rustic system

A rustic system blurs the line between natural forest and human-influenced cultivation. While even natural forests bear some level of human impact, rustic systems are intentionally managed by local communities. Allowing crops to grow under a natural canopy, rustic systems promote biodiversity and enable animals to forage and disperse seeds.

Polyculture gardens

In polyculture gardens different crops are cultivated together. For example, in coffee agroforestry, coffee plants thrive under the shade of native trees, which may also bear fruit and nuts. Like rustic systems, polyculture gardens foster greater biodiversity, enhance soil fertility, improve climate resilience, and support natural water management.

We proudly source shade-grown coffee from polyculture gardens in Cipaganti, Kerinci, and Petungkriyono.
